The short version: your contacts stay on your device. To improve the app, ContactOne sends a small amount of first-party, anonymous usage data to our own servers — never your contacts, and never for advertising or cross-app tracking. A bug report can include contacts only if you choose to attach them.
This policy describes how ContactOne (“we,” “us”) handles information in the ContactOne app for iPhone and iPad. It applies to the app itself. It does not cover Apple, Google, or Microsoft, whose own privacy policies govern the accounts you connect through iOS.
ContactOne reads and writes your contacts through Apple's system Contacts framework, using the permission you grant in iOS. Duplicate detection, merging, moving contacts between accounts, and the undo history all run locally on your device.
Your contact records — names, phone numbers, emails, photos, and other fields — are not transmitted to us during normal use. Syncing of your contacts to iCloud, Google, or Exchange is performed by iOS and those providers, not by ContactOne.
To understand how the app is used and to make it better, ContactOne sends a small amount of first-party, anonymous usage data to our own servers, hosted on Amazon Web Services. This is not advertising, and it is never cross-app tracking or shared with an analytics partner. What we send:
None of this includes your contact data. We use it only in aggregate to gauge usage and prioritize what to build next.
Notifications are off until you turn them on. If you opt in, iOS issues an Apple Push Notification service (APNs) token that we store so we can send the notifications you asked for. Turn them off anytime in iOS Settings.
If you hit a problem, the in-app bug reporter lets you send a report so we can reproduce and fix it. A report may include diagnostic information and, only if you choose to attach them, a few contacts relevant to the issue.
Attaching contacts is entirely optional and off unless you add them on the bug-report screen. Before a report is sent, ContactOne anonymizes the attached contacts automatically, replacing every identifying value so the structure of the problem is preserved with no real names, numbers, or emails in it. Real contact data never leaves your device.
ContactOne offers a paid subscription. Purchases and renewals are handled by Apple through StoreKit and the App Store. ContactOne talks to StoreKit to verify your subscription status. We do not receive or store your payment card details — Apple manages billing under its own terms and privacy policy.
Our analytics is first-party: the usage data described above goes only to our own servers, never to a third-party analytics or advertising service. ContactOne embeds no third-party analytics or advertising SDKs — no Mixpanel, Segment, Firebase Analytics, or advertising identifier. We do not fingerprint your device, and we do not sell or share personal information or use it for cross-app or advertising tracking.
Anonymous usage data is retained in aggregate on our servers. Because it is tied to a random identifier and contains no personal data, it cannot be traced back to you to remove individually. If you enabled notifications, your APNs token is kept only while they're on — disable them or delete the app and it's removed. Anything attached to a bug report is kept only as long as needed to resolve the issue, then deleted. Deleting the app removes its local data, including your undo history, from the device.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data a company holds about you. Because ContactOne keeps your contacts on your device and collects only anonymous usage data, we typically hold no personal data tied to you. If you have sent us a bug report and want the attached material removed, email us and we'll take care of it.
If we change this policy, we'll update the effective date above and, for material changes, note it in the app or on this page. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
